In this last of our 2024 “All About That Place” Pacific Edition, we’re delighted to welcome Anne Young of
and of Angler’s Rest, two scholars of One-Place Studies. In fact, Julie was one of the founding members of the Society for One-Place Studies. It’s fitting that these two talks should center on stories about the Pacific.Projectkin’s participation in the AATP24 series was designed to raise awareness of the role of place in family stories. Internationally, the series is organized by the Society of Genealogists, the Society for One-Place Studies, the British Association for Local History, and Genealogy Stories and sponsored by dozens of companies and organizations.

Anne Young | “Homebush, a gold mining hamlet in central Victoria, Australia, and its contributions to the WW1 effort.”
Anne has family connections with Homebush, Victoria, Australia. Her research revealed that the town's post-War plans to establish structures of public memory were fitful, constrained, and fiercely contested.
