I got to know
in 2024 when, as a working nurse with dementia patients, she shared her knowledge with our Projectkin community in a special project recipe for working with struggling elders. I’ve since learned to appreciate her larger role in the genealogy community in the UK. She’s not only a professional genealogist focusing on , but she’s also a speaker for the Society of Genealogists, registered study host for the Society for One-Place Studies, and advisor to the British Association for Local History. We talked a little about some of the projects Jude has worked on including:
Resources on One-Place Studies are accessible from the Society website
Local and national resources, such as the American National Register of Historic Places, which I mentioned, are accessible in many countries.
In our conversation today, we touched a little on the series' history, starting with the 10-year anniversary of the Society for One-Place Studies in 2023 with a series of 10-minute talks over ten days filtered across ten topic areas. Steve Jackson, the social media head for the society gave the first talk in that series kicking it all off with an explanation about both the practice of one-place studies and the community it’s engendered.
The terrific thing about that series was that it created an incredible library of presentations about different places worldwide. Today you can explore three years worth of contributed presentations on the Society of Genealogists’ YouTube channel. You might also want to use the map at the Society of One-Place Studies to explore registered studies, contacting principals to pursue collaboration or offer contributions.
As Projectkin, I was enchanted with that launch in 2023, but we were just getting started then. By 2024, I contacted the SoG to extend the program to our Pacific-friendly time window, presenting the Pacific Edition. It was in that capacity that we presented this Live series of programs.

In our conversation, Jude and I shared a few ideas about where this series might go in future years, but only time will tell. I hope you’ll join us in the one-place studies movement and contribute in your own way. Have an idea to get started on now? I’d love to hear it, perhaps Projectkin can help.
Do you have ideas or want to share these with friends and family? Please don’t hesitate to share the YouTube playlists, a presentation, this recording, or the whole series. They’re all free and open to the community.
Note: These programs are using Substack for livestreaming. You won’t need to register, but you will need to be logged in with a Substack account. As a follower or subscriber you’ll be notified when the live program begins.
These recordings will also be posted to a special playlist on Projectkin’s YouTube channel, clips have been added to YouTube Shorts, LinkedIn, and as part of #AATP25, they will also be cross-posted to the Facebook-based All About That Place group. Again, many many thanks to the generous Projectkin community for their support (and patience) with this series.
