Projectkin Speakers' Corner Line-up. Two Stories about Legacy in our Family History
Join us later this week to listen to my guests Projectkin members Diane Burley and Lori Olsen White, discuss the Legacies from the females in their family

I’m excited to host our October 2025 Speakers’ Corner event for Projectkin later this week. Two experienced family history researchers and writers will join me to discuss our theme for the month - “Legacies Take Many Forms, particularly when women are involved. I’m collaborating with Projectkin on this series; you’ll see my publications at Tracking Down the Family, Haverford West History, Gold Fields and Family Ties. — Jennifer Jones.
Allow me to introduce my guests:
Diane Burley of Musings of a Storyteller
Diane is an unabashed champion of fairness and female strength. Her goal is to find meaning - or a means to cope - usually through mirth, a lot of irony, and a fresh perspective. Whether it’s sharing a laugh, dusting off forgotten histories, or helping to craft your own narrative, Diane intends these stories connect with you in ways that matter.
Diane is a member of the St. Lawrence County Historical Association and the New York Genealogical and Biological Society
On our October Speakers’ Corner, Diane will share her story about her relative, Leonor Kearney Barry, an Irish immigrant, young widow, single Mum, national labour leader - and that was just her first act! Her story which is buried in the margins of history, offers a powerful glimpse into the courage and contradictions of women who refused to stay silent. Diane will show how this story still echoes our lives today.
Lori Olsen White of The Lost and Found Story Box
Lori has been collecting, researching, writing and sharing lost and found stories for decades, and has seen firsthand their amazing ability bring people together, to spark curiosity, creativity and conversation.
Each story that Lori publishes has been carefully chosen for its uniqueness, historical relevance, and ability to connect the past with today’s world. Whether you’re a genealogist tracing family roots, a historian seeking inspiration, or simply a lover of great nonfiction storytelling, Lori’s stories will captivate your imagination and leave you wanting more.
Lori will be sharing a story about her grandmother’s antique goblet collection, which began in the early 1950s, and continued until their deaths in 1986. They travelled all over America, and would stop at little antique shops along their way. They kept a hand written running ledger of every goblet they purchased, including where, when, cost and description. This was passed down to Lori’s mum and then to Lori, who has continued to add to the collection and also continued the documentation.
Join Us & Support our Speakers
Like all Projectkin events, our program is free, and recordings will be shared with subscribers a few hours after its conclusion.
Since our premiere event in August, the response to Speakers’ Corner has been enthusiastic. I would love to have you join us to share a story from your family history. Below you’ll see the schedule for upcoming programs through the balance of the year.

Please note that the timing of each event is arranged for our speakers' convenience. Matching speakers and time slots is a special challenge, but I’ve done my best to make this work by referencing our two established Pacific- and Atlantic-friendly time windows.1
On our events calendar, explore upcoming previews and events in your local time zone. Tap any event to view the Substack Live details or register for the Zoom program. Notice the time changes for the Sunday/Monday preview programs. You won’t want to miss next week’s programs starting Sunday across Europe and the Americas and Monday in Asia/Pacific.
Are you ready to step up?
Perhaps we’ve inspired you to step up to the soapbox and share your story at the Speakers’ Corner, too? Join us, won’t you?

This is a community effort. Barbara and I wholeheartedly welcome your participation as an audience member and a speaker. As described in the initial post in June, all speakers will receive a video file with a copy of their talk after our program. We hope this will be of value to you and your family in future years.
Archives of past programs are available from Project.org/speakers-corner.
At Projectkin, we benefit from genealogists worldwide and host events from our home in California during strategic time windows:
