Kathy Stone, professional photo organizer, has mostly retired from client work but today coaches us all through the challenge posed by our family photo and ephemera collections.
This session was very interesting. Loved Kathy’s ABC’s organizing technique. But what really struck me was the discussion about the story behind a photo. Photos can help solve a mystery about your family. For instance, when a key moment occurred. My grandmother is 102 and has lived within a 5-mile radius of her current house for 95 years. Why that’s interesting (at least to the family), is the year she moved to Mountain View/Los Altos, and started grade school, that’s when she met my grandfather. Eventually, 12 years later they got married, leading a 64 year marriage. With my grandfather deceased and grandma's memory is not ideal for documenting history. We were able to find photo of her at her childhood home in Oakland, before moving to Mountain View. The year: 1927. She was in second grade.
So much value here! Thanks Kathy and Barbara. Would love to read Ann’s photo story too sometime 🙂

Lovely story Kevin. What a treasure to find your grandmother’s photo. Hope I’ll get to read that story too sometime? 🙂🙏
Thanks Jane. I really appreciate it. It's one of the first stories I published on Substack. A Vegas Wedding in 1940: https://gemello.substack.com/p/the-early-days-of-vegas
