Great story and discussion, thank you! My mother wanted small party size pasties and meat pies to be served at her wake. When she died aged 101 not only did that happen, but 6 of her granddaughters cooked small cakes, biscuit slices (cookies for those on the other side of the world) and sweet tarts from her handwritten recipes. A memorable celebration of her life through her granddaughters’ cooking. Stories also reside in the utensils used, so much to write about.

Aww thanks so much for sharing that story, Carmel. What a blessing to have your Mom for so long, and for her to leave such a beautiful legacy of family recipes behind for you to carry on. I can't wait to read those stories, I know they'll be fabulous!

I would have listened to the live version but had an opportunity today to hear from a 102 year old Auschwitz survivor. Amazing story of survival.

Oh my goodness - good call! I hope it was everything you hope it would be. What an opportunity to just absorb history.

The overall feeling of what it was like was that they stayed too long because of their prosperity and thinking it would never get to them. Like many things in life it came very gradually, then all at once. He actually came off a box car to the camp and Dr. Mengele told him which line to get in. Mengele turned his back, and he got in the other line. Typical teenager but saved his life.

I know right? You could get a decent story out of just that one decision.

Thanks, Barbara! I’m drinking tea right now, but I’m afraid I’m in the dark about what a virtual tea is.
