Step-by-step creativity » Project Recipes
A project is such a general term. Why wouldn't a family history narrative, book, or blog post be a project?
The joy of unraveling family stories keeps family historians to engaged. We get hold of a mystery and keep digging. When we make a discovery it’s a celebration. Unfortunately, sharing those little moments of joy can fall flat — even with our own family.
There’s a better way
Focus on the story but think of it as a project. That can open your mind to audio and visual media, creating something that combines original documents and links to sources with the compelling narrative of your story.
Today, projects can take any form — from memoir to media. But let's face it, writing was intimidating enough, now the options available risk drowning us in alternatives.
We’re a community and we’re here to help
As a community, we're like you, focused on family history. We’re steeped in our stories and eager to dive into creative expressions. We're also here to encourage each other.
Our not-for-profit community has no platform to sell or affiliations to earn. We’re just here to help each other.
Projects let us focus on our goals, share techniques, and learn from each other.
Need inspiration?
Creativity is an active process, and nothing is more inspirational than a like-minded group trying to help you solve challenges together. Explore our archive of past Project Recipe events here or join us for an upcoming event and talk to other Projectkin members.
Here’s an example I did early in our history:
Our “Crazy Ideas” database
To help you think about projects YOU can do, we’ve collected an “idea starter” list for family history projects.
If you like an idea — run with it. It’s yours! (All we ask is that you remember the community to share and share alike. The Creative Commons has a good approach.) Maybe your idea will inspire another? Add yours to our list and see what happens!
(Note: This database is in Notion. Your browser may warn you of external links, that’s why.)
But wait, there’s more!
To make building on someone else’s ideas easy, we imagine projects like dishes to be cooked. Instead of creating each project from scratch, you can rely on a tested recipe and the encouragement of friends.
We can create anything together! Well, maybe we’ll start with a few projects.
